Turn off Layer 1 and go to Layers > Merge > Merge Visible and rename the merged layer tree.

Now we are going to do the tree trunk.  Add a new Raster Layer and name it treetrunk.  Go to Selections > Load from Disk and select treetrunk.sel.  Fill with #400000 and go to Selectons >Modify > Contract by 2 then flood fill with Color #800000 and go to Selections > Modify > Expand by 2. 

Now go to Effects > Plugins > Fantastic Machines > Paint Engine and use these settings:

Select None.  Duplicate treetrunk layer and mirror.  Position that layer the way you want it and lower the opacity of duplicate layer to 40%.   Turn off Layer 1 and tree layer and merge visible and rename this layer tree trunk.

Apply the inner bevel using these settings: 

Here is your tree.
