For this tutorial you will need:

Paint Shop Pro 8 ~ download a trial version here.

Redfield Lattice Composer  ~ download here.

VM Distortion Filter ~ download here.

Let's begin.  Open your 350 X 350 image.  You may use mine or one of your choice.  Just resize to 350 X 350 being sure 'Maintain aspect ratio of ' is unchecked.

Go to your layer palette and right click on Background Layer and Promote to Layer.  This is very important as you will not end up with a transparent image if you do not do this step.  Now for the fun part...let's apply the filters to get our hook rug.

Go to Effects > Plugins " VM Distortion > Kaleidoscope and use these settings:

Effects > Plugins > Redfield > Lattice Composer and apply these settings (Wallen Tiles):

Now go to Effects > Geometric Effects > Circle and apply.

Now we are going to reapply the Kaleidoscope filter as above.  Effects > Plugins > VM Distortion > Kaleidoscope default settings:

We are now going to give the image a more textured appearance just like a real hook rug.  Effects > Texture Effects > Texture and select the canvas.bmp(Tip: if you will hover over the textures in the dropdown box it will tell you the names of the textures)

and use these settings:

That's it!  Now you can merge all layers visible and tube it or save as a jpg or gif.

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial.  If you have any comments or questions please feel free to email me.
